Discussing A New Model of Gymnastics Part 2 – Macro Principles
Last week I released Part 1 of this lecture series on the future of gymnastics, which was very well received by the gymnastics community (find it here).
That lecture focused on our big picture concepts about creating and living by a mission statement, behaving in line with your values, and our gym’s “why” for being involved in gymnastics.
It also highlighted some of the major concepts I feel are required for the future of gymnastics to create healthy, happy, and high performing gymnasts.
I feel the same concepts are also what is required to make sure coaches, parents, support staff, and other professionals working in gymnastics are equally as happy.
In part 2 of this lecture, covering our Macro Principles, I discuss
- Ethical and Moral Guidelines
- Building Athlete Centered Models
- Education
- Communication
- Coaching The Human Holistically
- No Specialization Encouraged Until 12
- Respecting Age = Training Hours Until Age 12
Some of these topics are controversial, so I did my best to explain all of the scientific literature, experiences, and rationale for why I feel these changes are needed. You can listen below on iTunes, Spotify, and Stitcher below. Hope you find it useful!
