Danusia Francis Discusses the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles, and Her Knee Injury

Today on the podcast, I’m extremely excited to have Danusia Francis, who is a great friend of mine and came on the show three years ago.

Representing Jamaica, Danusia trains at Heathrow Gymnastics, she was reserve for Great Britain at the London Olympics and attended UCLA, competed for the Bruins Gymnastics team.

She’s had an amazing journey to Tokyo, and everything she’s gone through to get there, I wanted to have her back on to share her experiences with the crazy journey she’s had, to get to the Olympics and represent Jamaica.

Talk about what she’s gone through the last year with the pandemic and then the unfortunate injury to her knee at the Olympics Games.

We chat about what happened and what helped her be motivated through that situation.

We also have a really honest conversation about what happened with Simone Biles, everything that she’s been through, and what people are saying about her situation.

I think we take a really good step back and clarify for the people that are not in the gymnastics world, about how serious that situation was, and what she was going through.

How people are, unfortunately, putting Simone and other athletes in really tough positions in terms of what is expected of them.

It highlights the need for us as consumers to make sure we’re not only looking at these athletes as athletes but also as people who have real emotions and feelings and are going through things.

We can’t judge as nobody knows what’s going on behind the scenes, and since the recording of this podcast more information has come out about unfortunate family circumstances.

So my condolences to Simone, but also just want to make sure that people understand in the context of when this episode was recorded, as it was before we learned more about some of the things going on. We discuss:

  • Danusia’s 10-year journey to become an Olympian.
  • Danusia’s highlights of the Tokyo Olympic Games
  • The differences and benefits of training, competing, and going to the Olympics as an adult in the sport of gymnastics.
  • Danusia shares her knee injury, how she was able to work through it and not fall apart.
  • Our perspectives on the Simone Biles Situation.
  • What next for Olympian Danusia Francis!
